孙文海，普渡大学计算机与信息技术系副教授，CERIAS成员。他的研究涵盖了网络安全各个方向，重点关注数据安全和隐私、分布式信任和基础设施以及应用密码学。曾获ACM ASIACCS杰出论文奖，在网络安全顶级会议和权威期刊上发表多篇论文，并帮助组织了若干知名的计算机/网络安全国际会议，如IEEE INFOCOM、ACM WiSec、SecureComm等。

讲座内容：

What are the important considerations before kicking start your research? How to avoid running into unnecessary troubles and plan a more focused research agenda? In this talk, I will be sharing my experience and thoughts as both researcher and reviewer on some concerns that often frustrate young Ph.D. students and junior faculty, such as how to select a promising research direction, what is a valuable research problem, how to scaffold the structure of a paper and write it to meet the expectations of reviewers, etc. This talk aims to help researchers who just start their careers in cybersecurity and related fields in hopes of creating insightful discussions and providing needed guidance.
